Digital sound
“A digital sound projector works by creating sound beams that are then directed towards walls and ceilings that are then reflected back to the listener’s ears. This technology supersedes surround sound that required a speaker to be place in every corner of the room. Digital sound projectors are cleverly able to detect the various dimensions of the room in which it is placed to make the sound as effective and perfect as possible.
The most common use of this new technology is to place a projector underneath a wide screen television. It then projects the sound around the room giving a similar effect to the sound experienced when sitting inside a cinema. This technology can also be employed for purely audio listening so music where each musical instrument can be individually detected as if the player of each musical instrument was occupying a separate and distinct location within the room.
Digital sound or virtual surround as it is also known successfully creates the perception in the listener that there are multiple sources of the sound and not just the single source. This is achieved by effectively playing tricks on the listener’s ears by fooling them into believing the sound is coming from varying directions within the room. It is hardly surprising therefore that digital sound projectors have become so very popular with consumers.
When setting up a digital sound projector, it is important to remove any sound absorbing furniture. If this cannot be achieved then the furniture should be spaced evenly so the sound is defused equally between them.
